On behalf of the Lillpiteälvsgruppen, an eDNA survey with multi-species analyses is being conducted to map the fish and mussel communities in the Lillpite River and its estuary. The study covers 13 locations and focuses on ecological diversity and species of particular conservation interest, including Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and the freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera).
The purpose of the survey is to analyze how migration barriers affect species distribution and to provide scientifically grounded data for identifying appropriate conservation and protection measures. By utilizing eDNA, a non-invasive and high-precision method, the study can offer a comprehensive and detailed picture of species occurrences and overall ecosystem health.
The collected results can serve as a valuable foundation for environmental management, restoration efforts, and long-term conservation work for threatened species and migratory fish populations in the Lillpite River.
