Stormskär & Väderskär

Ilmatar is a leading Nordic energy company and an Independent Power Producer (IPP) that has been exclusively focused on renewable energy since 2011. The company follows a holistic strategy, developing, constructing, owning, and operating wind power facilities throughout their entire lifecycle, which can extend up to 40 years. As part of its long-term commitment to green energy, Ilmatar plans to establish offshore wind power in Finland’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), strengthening the region’s transition to sustainable electricity production.

MIX Research Sweden, a specialist in marine environmental studies, is currently supporting Ramboll Finland in the permitting process for offshore wind farm development north of Åland. To support this, extensive offshore eDNA surveys are being conducted to map the presence of fish and marine mammals. The collected eDNA data will form the basis for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), ensuring a scientifically sound and ecologically responsible wind power development.

By integrating cutting-edge eDNA technology into environmental assessments, the project contributes to more precise and sustainable biodiversity monitoring, which is crucial for minimizing ecological footprints in the expansion of renewable energy.
